Data Recovery NYC — Dead Phone? Your Photos May Not Be Gone
Your phone died, got dropped in water, or just won't turn on anymore — but that doesn't mean your photos, videos, and messages are gone forever. At Stop N Fix we specialize in board-level data recovery: repairing the phone's logic board just enough to bring it back to life and safely copy your data off — for iPhones and Android phones.
What We Recover
Photos & Videos
The irreplaceable ones — family, kids, trips, years of memories.
Messages
Text messages, iMessages, and WhatsApp data whenever the device can be brought back to a working, unlockable state.
Contacts, Notes & More
Contacts, notes, voice memos, and documents — the things you actually need back.
Whether your phone took a swim, stopped charging, died after a drop, or was declared "unrepairable" by another shop — if the board can be revived, your data usually can be too.
How It Works — Honestly
Modern phones encrypt everything. Your data is locked to your phone's own processor and storage chips, readable only by that exact board, unlocked with your passcode.
Real data recovery means repairing your phone's ORIGINAL logic board — just enough for it to power on, boot up, and unlock — then copying your data off the normal way. There are no "chip-off" shortcuts: pulling the storage chip off the board gives you encrypted data nobody can read.
And we'll be straight with you: if the processor (CPU) or storage (NAND) chips themselves are physically destroyed, the data cannot be recovered — by us or by anyone. We never promise "100% guaranteed" recovery. What we promise is a real diagnosis, an exact quote before any work, and an honest answer.
One rule with no exceptions: severely water-damaged and severely dropped phones are exactly the cases we take on — but recovery always requires your passcode. If the passcode is forgotten and nobody knows it, nobody can get in, and the data is absolutely unrecoverable.
Data Recovery Tiers — Simple, Clear Pricing
Every case starts with a diagnosis, and the diagnosis tells us which tier your phone falls into — based on how much board work it takes to get it booting again.
One Simple Fault
Your phone won't turn on, or it took on water — and it's down to one simple fault. We fix that one fault, the board powers on, and we export your data:
- Worn-out battery
- A minor short on the board
- Light water exposure — no corrosion spread
And on a Tier 1 fault, the fix is a real repair — most of these phones go back to normal, everyday use, not just a one-time data extraction.
Multiple Issues — No CPU Swap
One phone, many faults at once — water-damaged or hard-dropped. The board is repaired in place, and every function needed to reach your data gets fixed:
- Won't charge AND won't power on
- No WiFi, no Bluetooth
- Charging IC failure, major shorts — several issues on one board
On a Tier 2 case, the goal is your data, not a phone to keep using — the board is revived long enough to recover everything safely, but even when it powers back on, it won't last.
CPU Swap — Board Transplant
For phones smashed or bent out of shape, where the board itself can't be saved — but the CPU and NAND are still good:
- Severely deformed / bent / crushed boards
- Severe water damage that destroyed the board itself
- Boards damaged by a previous shop's failed repair
We transplant your CPU, NAND, and EEPROM as a matched set onto a healthy donor board — the phone powers on as your original phone, you unlock it with your passcode, and your data comes off.
Like Tier 2, a Tier 3 case is about the data, not saving the phone — after recovery, most customers move everything onto a new phone and retire the old one.

This isn't just for New Yorkers. Most of our data recovery customers mail their phones to us from out of state — board-level recovery like this is hard to find locally. We accept mail-in cases from all 50 states: Alabama · Alaska · Arizona · Arkansas · California · Colorado · Connecticut · Delaware · Florida · Georgia · Hawaii · Idaho · Illinois · Indiana · Iowa · Kansas · Kentucky · Louisiana · Maine · Maryland · Massachusetts · Michigan · Minnesota · Mississippi · Missouri · Montana · Nebraska · Nevada · New Hampshire · New Jersey · New Mexico · New York · North Carolina · North Dakota · Ohio · Oklahoma · Oregon · Pennsylvania · Rhode Island · South Carolina · South Dakota · Tennessee · Texas · Utah · Vermont · Virginia · Washington · West Virginia · Wisconsin · Wyoming — and Washington, DC.
Searching for "iPhone data recovery" in Florida, "dead iPhone data recovery" in Texas, or "Android data recovery" in California? You don't need a local shop that does board-level work — you need one you can mail your phone to. That's us.
I'm in another state — can I really mail you my phone?
Yes — that's exactly what our mail-in service is for, and we take cases from all 50 states. Call us first at 212-300-7088, then ship your phone to Stop N Fix, 100 Clinton St, New York, NY 10002 with a note listing your model, passcode, what data you need, and your contact info. We diagnose it on arrival, give you an exact quote before any work, and ship your phone and recovered data back to you.
Data Recovery FAQ
Do you need my passcode?
Yes — absolutely. Your data is encrypted and locked to your passcode. If you have forgotten your passcode and nobody knows it, the data cannot be recovered — not by us, not by anyone. No passcode = no data, no exceptions. Your passcode is used only to unlock your device for the recovery, in our shop, by our own technicians.
How long does data recovery take?
It depends on the tier and the extent of the damage. A Tier 1 case is much quicker than a Tier 3 transplant. After diagnosis, we'll give you an honest timeline for your specific case before you decide anything.
What if my data can't be recovered?
Then we tell you honestly, right after diagnosis — we won't string you along. If the CPU or NAND is destroyed, the data is gone for good, and we'd rather tell you that up front than sell you false hope.
Is my data private?
Yes. All recovery work is done in-house at our Lower East Side shop by our own technicians. Your data is never shared, sold, or sent to any third party — we copy it from your device to your USB drive or new phone, and that's it.
Can you recover data from a water-damaged phone?
Very often, yes — water damage is one of the most common cases we see. Two tips: don't try to charge a wet phone, and don't keep trying to power it on; both can make the damage worse. Bring it in (or mail it in) as soon as you can — corrosion gets worse with time.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk-ins are welcome Monday–Friday, 10:30am–7pm (Sat–Sun closed). For mail-in cases, please call us first at 212-300-7088.
Don't Assume Your Photos Are Gone
And don't let another shop tell you a dead phone means dead data. Bring it to a board-level shop first.
